Two teenagers from Lafayette are fighting for their lives after a dramatic rollover crash that occurred in Clinton County last Sunday. According to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on August 31. A report by FOX59 detailed that the crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 52 and County Road 880 West, involving a single vehicle, a blue 2010 Ford F-250, which was being driven by a 19-year-old resident of Lafayette.
The vehicle, for reasons still to be determined, crossed the median and began to quickly roll multiple times, eventually coming to a stop upside down in a ditch. The intensity of the crash significantly trapped the passenger, also a 19-year-old male from Lafayette, inside the overturned truck, as mentioned in the WTHR report. Following the incident, emergency responders rapidly transported both teens to local hospitals, where they are currently listed in critical condition.
The names of the teens have been released by authorities, revealing the driver as Keegan Woods and the passenger as Maverick Dehaven. The Clinton County Sheriff's Office and a host of other agencies were involved in the emergency response, as noted by both WTHR and WRTV. These included Clinton County Central Dispatch, Clinton County EMS, LifeLine, Frankfort Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Perry Township Fire/EMS, and Dave's Towing/Body Shop.
The crash continues to remain under investigation as officials work tirelessly to piece together what may have caused such a catastrophic event. While the community holds its breath, hoping for the recovery of Woods and Dehaven, there is an acute awareness of the fragility of youth and the sudden, violent ways it can be contested. As reported by WRTV, the Sheriff's office is leading the investigation and urges anyone with information relating to the crash to step forward and assist in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic turn of events.
