Two individuals are now facing consequences following a series of events that began with a theft at a Home Depot and concluded with a dramatic collision involving a DeKalb County police vehicle. According to information shared by FOX 5 Atlanta, the duo made an ill-fated attempt to evade capture resulting in a car crash and subsequent foot chase on Monday afternoon.
The episode unfolded after officers received a call regarding a theft at the Lawrenceville Highway Home Depot, the suspects made a rash decision to flee which abruptly ended with their vehicle crashing into a parked police car, causing injuries to an officer inside the police vehicle which were not life-threatening. Following the crash, the two individuals abandoned their car and attempted to escape on foot, the driver was apprehended swiftly, and the passenger was detained after a search that took officers through the nearby streets, eventually concluding on Flamingo Drive, as per details from a 11Alive report.
Identified by DeKalb County authorities, the two culprits, 27-year-old Owen Clark and 23-year-old Antravius Smith, are now being held at the DeKalb County Jail, their charges, however, remain unspecified at this juncture. This incident has once again brought to focus the risks law enforcement officers face even in what may appear to be routine responses to calls for service.
