Following a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies, Jeffery White, a 39-year-old murder suspect, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) yesterday. White was wanted in connection with the death of Lasheka Johnson, his former girlfriend, who succumbed to complications from a gunshot wound on July 13. The U.S. Marshals Service reports that Johnson was originally found injured on March 26 in Memphis, and a subsequent investigation by the Memphis Police Department Detectives identified White as the suspect.
According to details shared by the USMS, Johnson faced her tragic fate in the 1500 block of Vollintine Street, when tragedy struck, before being transported to a hospital. Detectives secured a warrant for White's arrest on the grounds of First-Degree Murder and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm, the day following her unfortunate passing. In a display of efficient multi-jurisdictional collaboration, the search for White was undertaken by the USMS Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force in Memphis.
Upon locating White at a residence on the 1000 block of McNeil Street in Memphis, the Task Force, in conjunction with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, found themselves at a standoff. White initially refused to comply with the officers' demands to surrender. Subsequently, deputy marshals, in a decisive action to resolve the situation safely, made the call to breach the residence's entrance. White was taken into custody shortly after the intervention, ending the arrest operation without further complications.
