The University of Cincinnati College of Law recently threw a spotlight on how higher education can ripple across oceans and continents. In a virtual discussion titled "Life After the LLM," current students and aspiring legal eagles had the chance to hear from former students who've taken their UC Law LLM degrees and run with them—with great strides on the international stage.

Held online, this event turned out to be a significant meeting point, connecting recent graduates with legal pros who once walked in their scholarly shoes, providing a treasure trove of real-world advice and inspiring anecdotes. Featured were two UC Law alumni, Gwenelyne Sakwe, a mover and shaker from Rwanda, and Stephen Yona Mudibo, who is making waves in Kenya, both of whom the University's online portal has spotlighted their career journeys. They've made it big, but not without the network and know-how fostered at UC Law.

Sakwe, as reported by the University of Cincinnati, has made her mark as a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Law & Innovation in Kigali.  Legal strategies that drive sustainable development across Africa. With legal prowess across Nigeria, Cameroon, and the US, she's been both a commercial law leader and a beacon for startups seeking her sage advice on compliance and readiness for investors.

As for Mudibo, his legal career seems to know no bounds. The Head of the Legal Unit at Qona DT Sacco Limited is at the heart of one of the largest cooperative financial institutions in East and Central Africa. Cincinnati Law proudly shared that before Mudibo got his LLM, he cut his teeth with Igeria and Ngugi Advocates, a top-tier Kenyan commercial law firm, and also made his contributions felt in the world of international governance and financial regulation.

The virtual conversation was recorded for posterity, and those interested can still soak up the wisdom spilled during the event. Just pop over to the alumni YouTube channel, and you too can get the insights and pointers from the session—because at UC Law, they believe the lawyer you become is just as important as the law you practice.
