The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that starting tomorrow, there will be lane closures on both northbound and southbound Interstate 35 over Missouri Route 33 in Clay County. MoDOT's website states that this is due to bridge maintenance scheduled starting tomorrow through Oct. 3, occurring daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., contingent on the mood swings of Mother Nature.
For those who frequent this stretch of I-35, it's time to plan for a bit of extra driving time or scout alternative routes, because when roads close even partially, traffic tends to become a sluggish crawl that tests the patience of the calmest drivers and indeed, the best laid schemes of mice and men go often askew, so while these maintenance activities are in progress, anything can happen really. The emphasis is on safety, so motorists are urged to exercise caution, reduce speed, and stay vigilant in these work zones, which can range from extended projects to just a temporary inconvenience to correct a pothole or cart away debris.
As we rely on these arteries of asphalt and concrete to get us from one location to another, the shutdown reminds us of the constant need for upkeep that our infrastructure demands. "Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones," says MoDOT.
