After a stellar start to their season with a win over UCLA, the Utah Utes football team has scooped up not one, not two, but three Big 12 weekly awards, as reported by UtahUtes.com. Quarterback Devon Dampier led the charge, being named the Offensive Player of the Week following an impeccable performance that tied him for fourth in Utah's record books for single-game completion rate. With a fine blend of 206 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an additional 87 yards on foot, Dampier exemplified the dynamic threat he poses under center.
In the trenches, the Utes' offensive line earned collective recognition with the Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week award. The line, returning all starters from last year's lineup, was dominant against UCLA, enabling the team to rack up the most rushing yards by a Big 12 team against an FBS opponent in the first week of play. Equally formidable, Utah's defensive line snagged its own slice of the accolade pie, securing the Defensive Line of the Week honor by holding UCLA to a mere 220 yards of total offense. The accolades underscore a comprehensive team effort that saw Utah produce points on seven out of nine possessions.
The individual efforts didn't go unnoticed either. Logan Fano, a defensive end for the Utes, made significant contributions with 2.0 tackles for loss (TFL) and a sack among his five tackles, while also breaking up a pass. Meanwhile, John Henry Daley, another defensive end, matched the intensity with 2.0 sacks, helping secure the team's total of 5.0 TFL against the Bruins.
