Last week, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) teamed up with the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and Conference USA to kick off a celebration aimed at giving teachers the credit they've earned. As a part of the initiative named Extra Yard for Teachers Week, the entities are putting their money where their mouths are, allocating resources, and providing grants to local schools and standout educators. The aim is not only to lift spirits but also to impact the classroom environments directly.

UTEP's plan includes a pair of $4,000 grants earmarked for campus enhancements, and a separate $1,000 grant for a teacher who goes above and beyond in their educational efforts. The selection process is open to applicants through September 10, and, according to UTEP, the winners will be unveiled on September 12.

This isn't just about writing checks, though. As Amanda Pulido, Director of Student-Athlete Development, put it, "Teachers are at the heart of student success, and we're proud to celebrate their commitment and impact through Extra Yard for Teachers," as per UTEP. The real jackpot for these educators will come later, with a special Big Day Recognition visit scheduled for September 16 and an on-field homage during UTEP’s home football game on the 20th. It's all part of the foundation's larger commitment to lift the teaching profession across the resources, recognition, recruitment, and professional development spectrum.
