A routine traffic stop for cell phone use spiraled into a high-speed chase and crash in American Canyon, leading to the arrest of Laron Hamilton, a 24-year-old Vallejo man currently on felony probation. The American Canyon Police Department reported that the incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when Hamilton was spotted by an ACPD officer using his cell phone while driving.
The confrontation began at Eucalyptus and Donaldson Way, culminating in Hamilton's vehicle striking another motorist before ramming into a retaining wall at the intersection of Rio Del Mar and Los Altos, according to the department's social media post. Following the crash, Hamilton attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended by the pursuing officer. The Vallejo resident, who holds a record of felony probation out of Solano, Sacramento, and Alameda counties, faces numerous charges, including evasion, resisting arrest, and hit and run.
Hamilton was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on his two warrants, along with charges including "Evading an Officer Wrong Way," "Evading an Officer with Willful Disregard for Public Safety," "Resisting/Obstructing an Officer," "Hit and Run," and "Using a Cell Phone while Driving," as detailed by the American Canyon Police Department. The fact that Hamilton's vehicle registration had expired amplifies these offences.
