Labor Day weekend at Lake Powell brought a grim discovery as individuals reported a submerged vehicle at Lone Rock Beach, part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Upon investigation, local authorities linked the vehicle to a missing person case from 2023. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Page Police Department, confirmed the connection through an official press release, as reported by ABC4.
The sunken vehicle was identified as belonging to 54-year-old Dennis Keith Dillinger, whose absence had cast a pall over the community of Page, Arizona, since he was last seen at a Family Dollar Store on December 18, 2023. The details emerged Tuesday after the National Park Service ran the vehicle's ID number, as KSL reported. Extracted from the depths on Wednesday, the remains found within the vehicle were taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office to unravel the tragedy that submerged not just a truck but a man's life and the peace of his loved ones.
Authorities, handling the sensitive task, have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding Dillinger’s untimely demise while acknowledging the need for a thorough investigation. "The case is still considered to be an open and active investigation," stated Lt. Alldredge, as obtained by KUTV. With the truck now removed from the lake and the remains being examined, Kane County officials shoulder the weight of a community waiting for answers.
