Early Sunday morning, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to a scene of violence that left one individual injured from gunfire. The shooting occurred on the northwest side of the city, near 29th and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. As first reported by FOX59, at approximately 1:01 a.m., first responders found the victim outside of a liquor store with injuries indicative of a gunshot.
The individual was swiftly transported to Methodist Hospital and was initially listed in critical condition. However, according to WTHR, the victim's status was later updated to stable. IMPD has not publicly speculated on the motive for the shooting, and the investigation continues to unfold.
Law enforcement is working off of available security footage provided by the liquor store's surveillance system. The images captured have provided authorities with a glimpse of the suspect vehicle – a red Chevy Equinox. In their search for tangible leads, IMPD has also uncovered three shell casings on the scene, indicating the violence that abruptly shattered the area's night-time calm. This detail was corroborated by both FOX59 and WTHR.
Witnesses have reported seeing two young individuals, a male and a female, fleeing the scene following the shooting, as noted in reports from WTHR. Police are eager to glean any information from the public that could assist in tracking down these potential suspects. Anyone with knowledge pertinent to the incident is encouraged to reach out to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). The hope is that tips from the community can piece together the actions leading to someone being left wounded on those city streets. Meanwhile, as conveyed by WRTV, the investigation remains ongoing, as IMPD continues to seek answers in this unsettling event.
