A boating accident on South Holston Lake in East Tennessee killed a Virginia man and seriously injured another. Last Saturday around 9:45 p.m., a bass boat hit a bridge pillar under the Highway 421 bridge. The passenger, 72-year-old Ronald E. Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WVLT.
The operator of the vessel was seriously injured and airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. Authorities and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are investigating the collision, and Sullivan County first responders assisted at the scene, as mentioned by WBIR. This is the 20th boating-related fatality in Tennessee this year. Taylor's body will be sent for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death, as standard investigative procedures dictate.
