Racquet enthusiasts, take note: Wailua Parks is about to put a temporary hold on your backhand practice. Announced by the Department of Parks and Recreation, both the tennis and pickleball courts at Wailua Houselots Park and Wailua Homesteads Park will be undergoing maintenance soon. Starting on September 29, the courts at Wailua Houselots will be out of commission until October 1 due to some sprucing up.
During this short break, workers will paint the concrete wall between the courts and install windscreens on the fences to reduce wind — a big help for anyone trying to serve in breezy conditions. With the windscreens up, serves should feel much more controlled. The same work will take place at Wailua Homesteads Park from October 6 to October 8.
According to the official announcement from the Department of Parks and Recreation, the closures will be subject to weather conditions, which means delays might extend these dates if Mother Nature decides to, well, not cooperate.
The department is appreciative, thanking the public in advance for their patience and understanding while they get to work on the courts. Questions or concerns? They're taking calls at 808-241-4460 or can be reached via email at [email protected].
