Southwest Atlanta was the site of three separate shootings over a turbulent weekend, leaving locals concerned and police searching for answers. In the first incident, a 60-year-old man was shot following what was believed to be a drug-related verbal altercation on Saturday night, Atlanta News First reports. Authorities arrived at 315 Hills Ave. SW around 9:40 p.m. to find the victim, who was alert and conscious upon being transported to the hospital.
The violence continued into the early hours of yesterday, where a 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound at City Park Apartments, located at 415 Fairburn Road SW. A suspect, 23-year-old Thaddeus Cullins, was later apprehended and now faces pending charges linked to what police suggest, was an "ongoing verbal dispute." Later that morning, another shooting on Nelms Drive SW resulted in a 41-year-old man being struck by gunfire. He was taken for medical care and remains in a state of recovery.
While an arrest has been made in the Fairburn Road incident, the shooter in the Nelms Drive case remains unknown. The victim in that latter case "may have known the shooter," FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Police continue their investigation into both the Hills Ave. and Nelms Drive shootings, seeking to understand the contexts leading up to the violence.
With two shooters still at large, the public has been asked to come forward with any information they might possess to aid the ongoing police investigations.
