Emergency services are in full response mode as a fire rages through the 1500 block of Zinn in the Westway area. According to a social media post from El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, the West Valley Fire Department is actively engaged in combating the flames. As a result, several road closures are currently in place, including Zinn/Tom Mays, Zinn/Remington, and Westway/Tom Mays, redirecting traffic away from the blaze.
The unexpected incident has prompted officials to quickly adapt, sending out a traffic alert and urging parents from Deanna Davenport Elementary to seek alternative routes for their afternoon child pick-up. In the midst of uncertainty, a promise was made by the Sheriff's Office that a school notification will be dispatched imminently, reassuring parents with timely updates regarding the situation.
While the fire poses a tangible threat to structures in its immediate vicinity, Sheriff Ugarte has allayed wider public fears. "There is no danger to the immediate area or nearby school at this time," as per El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte on a social media post, indicating that the situation, although severe, is contained and under control.
