A fatal collision claimed the life of a 53-year-old man Tuesday night when he drove the wrong way on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, crashing into an SUV, as reported by WGN-TV.
The incident occurred near the 4500 block of North DuSable LSD at around 8:30 p.m., according to the Chicago Police. The man was attempting to go north in the southbound lanes when the collision happened. Police stated that the gray vehicle, driven by the 53-year-old man, "entered the southbound lane and collided with a black SUV." The driver of the gray vehicle, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, suffered severe head injuries. Despite being quickly treated by the Chicago Fire Department, he was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
Meanwhile, the black SUV's driver, a 68-year-old man, was reported to be in good condition following an evaluation at the same hospital. While Chicago Police have not issued any citations in connection to the crash, their Major Accident detectives are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
Additional details shared by ABC7 Chicago include the fact that both individuals involved were transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The driver of the SUV, fortunately not having sustained serious injury, was listed to be in good condition.
