A balcony collapse at an apartment building near the University of Cincinnati has left 10 people hospitalized, according to local authorities. The incident on Stetson Avenue in Corryville is reported to have happened at around 10 PM last night during a student celebration after an exam had concluded. Local12 indicated that the wooden structure fell approximately 20 feet, causing several individuals to be taken away on stretchers.
Firefighters have suggested that the balcony could not support the weight of the numerous people gathered and subsequently gave way. District Fire Chief Nicholas Caliguri disclosed that "Other victims may have self-transported to area hospitals," stressing the potential for higher injury counts. The FOX19 report highlighted grief counseling services being made available through the University of Cincinnati, a measure to provide support to those affected by the traumatic event.
Among the injured, one person has been reported to be in a life-threatening condition, while five others suffered serious injuries, and four have been treated for minor injuries. Victims were dispersed among local hospitals, with seven being admitted to UC Medical Center, two to Good Samaritan Hospital, and one to Christ Hospital, as Local12 herewith reports.
