Tragedy struck a southeast Atlanta neighborhood late Sunday when a 16-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound in an apparent drive-by shooting. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on the 2000 block of Flat Shoals Road SE. Upon arrival, police found the teenage victim injured and swiftly transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting paint a daunting picture of violence, as the youth reportedly walked alongside a girl when an unidentified vehicle approached, shots rang out, and the car vanished into the night. The girl managed to flee unharmed, but the boy, struck by gunfire was less fortunate. "Police said the boy and a girl were walking along the road when a car drove up, opened fire, and then sped off," as per the initial account by FOX 5 Atlanta.
In a parallel account provided by Atlanta News First, the shooting took place outside a Shell gas station also situated on Flat Shoals Road. This aligns with the information regarding the location disclosed by FOX 5 Atlanta. Authorities, after finding more than 10 shell casings on the scene, have continued their investigation, looking into security footage from nearby gas stations in hopes of identifying the vehicle and the shooter. No suspect has been named thus far, and details about the attacker or the motive behind the shooting remain unclear.
