A shooting in far east El Paso has resulted in a fatal outcome for a 49-year-old woman during the early hours of Wednesday. KFOX14 reported that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Tierra Rica near Pebble Hills, where an argument allegedly led to gunfire outside a residence.

The El Paso Police Department responded to the scene and, according to Officer Adrian Cisneros, they found the woman near a trash bin after being shot. Appearing to hold a critical detail, El Paso Times mentions a 23-year-old man involved who had exited his residence and confronted the woman by the trash can before the shooting took place.

The Crimes Against Persons unit of the El Paso Police Department is investigating the shooting. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. KTSM shared that the man in question is being detained and questioned by authorities. However, there has been no official arrest made.

While the relationship between the shooter and the victim remains unclear, Officer Cisneros specified that "they are not sure if they were in a relationship, and doesn't believe that it was a domestic situation." Cisneros confirmed, echoing that the two individuals "are not related," according to KTSM news. The area was cordoned off for investigation, and though having been active for several hours, the mobile command center also arrived to establish a base of operations.

The El Paso police department assures the public that this was an isolated incident, with no ongoing danger to the surrounding community. The investigation is ongoing, and residents are asked if they have any information related to the shooting to step forward and contact the police through the non-emergency number at (915) 832-4400 or, for those wishing to remain anonymous, through Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477 (TIPS).
