In a surprising turn of events, a 77-year-old man identified as Daiv Kawika Sundown stands accused of stealing an ATV from an address on the 4000 block of O’Leary in far east El Paso. The El Paso County Sheriff’s office recovered the vehicle after a report came in on September 11, locating the all-terrain vehicle at a property on the 15000 block of Hope Road, KFOX-TV reported.
Following up on the theft, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit assumed responsibility for the case. According to KTSM, the detectives’ investigation led to the identification of Sundown as the suspect responsible, resulting in his arrest after an arrest warrant was obtained. Responding to the stolen vehicle report, the Sheriff deputies arrested the man suspected of the alleged theft, determined by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit, as reported by KVIA.
Charged with theft of property under $2,500, Sundown was booked into the El Paso County Jail, officials stated. The 77-year-old's bail was set at $5,000, adding another layer to what one would hope to be the sunset years windowed by peace, not barred by accusations and theft, an expectation unmet in Sundown's case. The sheriff's office has not released any additional information about the motive behind the theft or other details about the investigation.
