
A tragic collision in the west Las Vegas Valley on Friday night resulted in the death of a 78-year-old woman who was using a mobility scooter. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on South Torrey Pines Drive, north of Hyde Avenue. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the woman, a Las Vegas resident whose name has not been released, was attempting to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a motorcycle.
Details provided by the Metropolitan Police Department report that the motorcycle, a 2007 Suzuki GSXR-600 operated by 58-year-old Darin McCuistion, was traveling southbound on Torrey Pines at high speed. McCuistion's vehicle reportedly collided with the mobility scooter, leading to both parties being thrown to the ground. 8 News Now notes that although the woman was rushed to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, she later succumbed to her wounds.
The motorcyclist involved in the crash also sustained injuries and was transported to the same medical center. Authorities observed signs of impairment and subsequently arrested McCuistion under suspicion of DUI. Las Vegas Justice Court records later revealed charges against McCuistion that included DUI resulting in death and reckless driving. This incident marks the 120th traffic-related fatality in the jurisdiction of Metro police in 2025, as per 8 News Now.
