After over two decades of satisfying the East Bay's appetite for French-style baked goods, Feel Good Bakery has announced its impending closure. The last day to purchase their beloved loaves and pastries will be October 31, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. A fixture in the Alameda community for 22 years, this local institution expressed heartfelt thanks to their customers in a goodbye letter without providing specific reasons for the shutdown.
Regulars at their Alameda Marketplace and Encinal Shopping Center spots were met with the news on Monday morning. Jessica Lew, picking up her usual array of bread and sweets, told the San Francisco Chronicle, "They are leaving behind such a big space here," pointing out the emotional, not just physical, gap that will remain. Feel Good Bakery cultivated a loyal customer base that will clearly feel the absence of their neighborhood bakery.
Competitor Crispian Bakery, located just across the street from Feel Good, even weighed in on the closure. In their Instagram post, Crispian hinted at a friendly rivalry that spurred them to maintain high standards, saying, per the San Francisco Chronicle, "I have thought of Feel Good as an elder brother ever since we opened," while Feel Good's patrons have been reassured that any existing pre-orders will be refunded, as online and pre-order sales have ceased effective immediately.
Feel Good Bakery communicated its gratitude to their customers for years of support. "From all of us here at Feel Good Bakery, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to spread joy and celebration!" reads a statement on Feel Good Bakery's website.
