In a move affirming her commitment to both safety and fairness in the criminal justice system, Governor Maura Healey has announced the promotion of Angelo Gomez to Chair of the Massachusetts Parole Board. Healey's decision reflects her confidence in the seasoned law enforcement veteran, whose resume spans over three decades. Previously appointed by Governor Healey herself, Gomez has served on the Parole Board since July of this year, experience that is expected to inform his leadership in this new role.
According to a statement obtained by mass.gov, Governor Healey praised Gomez, saying, "I was proud to nominate Angelo Gomez to the board earlier this year because of his decades of experience, leadership and commitment to public safety as a former probation officer and a parole officer." She expressed her gratitude for his willingness to serve in a higher capacity and her eagerness to collaborate with him and the board.
Gomez's background includes serving as the Chief Parole Supervisor for Field Services, along with other roles such as Parole Supervisor, Parole Officer, Probation Officer, Correctional Officer, and Court Procedures Clerk, equipping him with a multifaceted understanding of the system. Appointed by the Governor's Council to the Board, he has quickly garnered respect among his peers. He is educated in the field with degrees from Bunker Hill Community College and the University of Massachusetts Boston, and has also completed graduate coursework at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
