
The City of Apache Junction has a reason to celebrate as Evie McKinney, the City Clerk, has officially been awarded the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation. This recognition comes from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), marking McKinney as one of the 73 clerks across Arizona to have earned this distinction, according to the city's official announcement.
Qualifying for the CMC status is no small feat, the credential signifies a substantial commitment from municipal clerks to their communities and local governments. To earn it, clerks need to complete a rigorous educational program, one that McKinney has embraced, “I worked to get the CMC designation to enhance my abilities as the City Clerk, and to show my dedication to our city as a professional public servant," McKinney elucidated in a statement obtained by the city's news release. She also expressed gratitude for the backing of city leadership and the opportunity to serve the Apache Junction community.
McKinney's path to the CMC started back in 1990, with her career in various departments within the city, before her promotion to City Clerk early this year. Her previous titles include acting City Clerk, a role she stepped into in the fall of 2024, before her appointment to the official position in February 2025.
Her collection of accolades doesn't end with the CMC. McKinney holds the title of Arizona Certified Elections Officer as well as certificates from the Arizona Municipal Clerk's Association Institute, the AGTS Supervisor's Academy, among other notable clerical and administrative educations. She sets her sights next on the Master Municipal Clerk designation, an advanced program also provided by the IIMC, “I'm thankful for the unwavering support from city leadership, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to serve the Apache Junction community,” McKinney told the City of Apache Junction press release.
Finally, the IIMC is an organization dedicated to the professional development of city clerks and similar roles, providing them with the skills to navigate the complex responsibilities of their office.
