Over the weekend, a man's afternoon was shattered when an armed intruder invaded his Oak Lawn condominium, resulting in a swift police response and the suspect's subsequent arrest. As ABC7 Chicago reports, officers were called to the 10900-block of Keating Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday following reports of both a burglary attempt and an armed robbery. A female resident notified the police after a man tried to force her window open, a situation that quickly escalated when a man, armed and masked, robbed a male resident at gunpoint, locking him in a bathroom and attempting to abscond with his possessions and vehicle.
Police apprehension came swiftly, and Demarkus Ross from Worth, Illinois, was arrested just one block away from the crime scene. A confession was reportedly obtained by detectives, with Ross being found in possession of stolen jewelry and other items, including the victim's car key. As per CBS News Chicago, the arrest was facilitated by a perimeter set up by the police and the deployment of a drone, which aided in the search for the suspect.
Ross is now facing serious charges, including home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping while armed with a firearm, and armed robbery – all Class X felonies., which indicate the gravity of the crimes committed. "The suspect allegedly went into his condo, locked him in the bathroom and tried to flee in the victim's car," stated an Oak Lawn police report according to ABC7 Chicago.
