Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, former State Senator Jason Esteves, State Representative Inga Willis, and members of the Atlanta legislative delegation will hold a press conference to discuss Act 358, a measure on the November ballot that would provide property tax relief for Atlanta seniors aged 65 and older, potentially saving them up to $1,000 per year.
As per the City of Atlanta release, the initiative stems from former Senator Esteves’s SB 330, passed with support from Mayor Dickens, Rep. Willis, and the Atlanta legislative delegation. Act 358 introduces a homestead exemption that would deduct $50,000 from the assessed value of eligible senior homeowners’ properties for the portion of taxes funding the City of Atlanta Independent School District’s educational budget. The legislation is intended to address the financial strain caused by rising living costs in Georgia.
The press conference will be held at 10:00 a.m. today at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave, in the Mural Room on the second floor. Media representatives are asked to RSVP through the official Atlanta city email.
Further details, including eligibility requirements and official statements from the involved officials, are available on the City of Atlanta’s website.
