The Austin Police Department is reaching out for public assistance after a hit-and-run incident left a bicyclist injured earlier this month. According to information released by the Austin Police, the collision took place at around 3:35 p.m. on October 14, near the intersection of West 30th Street and East Drive. A white male bicyclist was hit by a vehicle, which then left the scene without providing aid or contacting emergency services.
Despite the absence of life-threatening injuries, the victim required hospital treatment from which he has since been discharged. Now, police are working to track down the driver responsible for the collision; however, their efforts have been stymied by the lack of witness testimony. Two individuals who were at the scene are believed to have signaled for help following the crash, yet they have yet to come forward with further details that could aid investigators.
The APD is making a public appeal for these witnesses, or anyone with relevant information, to step up and provide the clues needed to apprehend the culprit. In an effort to encourage community cooperation, it has been announced that tips leading to an arrest may qualify for a reward of up to $1,000 via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. Concerned citizens are prompted to report any pertinent information by contacting the Highway Investigation Tip Line or submitting tips anonymously if preferred.
