A late-night crash on LA Highway 1045 in St. Helena Parish claimed the life of a Baton Rouge man, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Elijah L. Brumfield, died at the scene early morning yesterday.

According to the  Louisiana State Police release, Brumfield was driving a 2011 Mazda Mazda3 westbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2006 Ford F-250. Brumfield, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford’s driver, Travis D. Troopers determined that Keller showed signs of impairment and charged him with first-offense DWI and other traffic violations. He was released on a summons after receiving medical attention.

Toxicology samples from both drivers were collected for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities reiterated the importance of wearing seatbelts and avoiding impaired, distracted, or fatigued driving.
