Bloomington has officially broken ground on a new community health and wellness center at 98th Street and Penn Avenue. The project, funded by a half-percent local sales tax approved by voters in 2023, represents a $101.8 million investment to expand recreational, fitness, and community program facilities.
According to the City of Bloomington, Interim City Manager Kathy Hedin said the center will support the city’s continued growth and commitment to improving quality of life. The facility will include gymnasiums, fitness studios, pools, health education spaces, and areas for community programs. It will also integrate Parks and Recreation and Public Health services, offering resources such as immunizations and parenting education.
Mayor Tim Busse stated that the project is intended to provide modern, inclusive facilities for residents of all ages and backgrounds.
The existing Creekside Community Center will be demolished on October 20 to make way for construction. The new health and wellness center is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
