A 14-year-old from Boston was apprehended late Monday night after allegedly waving a replica gun at individuals in South Station, causing a stir that ended with his arrest. The MBTA Transit Police responded swiftly to a 911 call made around 11:30 p.m., indicating a threat was looming within the transport hub, as Boston 25 News reported. According to their accounts, a search ensued which quickly led to the youth, who was found in possession of what appeared to be a firearm.
The nature of the imitation weapon was confirmed when officers examined the object, finding it to be a non-lethal replica with a working laser sight attached. This alarming incident successfully concluded without any reported injuries, although the specter of harm had been worryingly real until officers could confirm no actual firearm was present. The boy was subsequently charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon, which, as reported by The Boston Globe, suggests the gravity with which local authorities are treating the case.
The person involved has not been named because he is a minor, and details about his Juvenile Court hearing have not yet been released. The youth was taken to the TPD station for booking, and the case remains under investigation, as per The Boston Globe.
