A 36-year-old Worcester man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault reported in Auburn back in July, following what investigators describe as a lengthy, multi-agency manhunt that stretched across town lines. Franklin Nuahn was taken into custody in Worcester and booked at the Auburn Police Department before being held on $5,000 bail.
According to the Auburn MA Police Department, detectives conducted what they called a lengthy and comprehensive investigation into the reported assault, collecting forensic evidence, reviewing critical video footage, and interviewing witnesses before securing Nuahn's arrest. Police have not disclosed the specific criminal charges filed against him, nor the exact date or location within Auburn where the alleged assault took place, according to reporting by The Citizen Chronicle.
Nuahn was transported first to the Auburn Police Department and then to Worcester District Court, where he was scheduled for arraignment. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, the department's post notes.
A Manhunt Spanning Local, State, and Federal Lines
Locating Nuahn required help well beyond Auburn's own detective bureau. The Worcester Police Department assisted Auburn investigators directly, while the case also drew in the U.S. Marshals Service and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, according to the department's announcement.
That state police unit, known as VFAS, is a specialized team dedicated to tracking down violent felons wanted for serious offenses including rape, indecent assault, murder, and armed robbery, per the Massachusetts State Police. The department also said it provides support and resources for people who have experienced sexual assault.
Several open questions remain for Nuahn's case as it moves through Worcester District Court, including the exact criminal counts entered at arraignment, whether he entered a plea, and whether prosecutors sought additional conditions of release or a dangerousness hearing beyond the initial $5,000 bail.
