The department has secured nearly $150,000 in grants intended to enhance community education, improve traffic investigations, and crack down on speeders and impaired motorists. According to an announcement made by the Buckeye Police, the focus is to mitigate the often fatal consequences of reckless driving on their roads.
Breaking down the funding, the department received $53,291 earmarked for dealing with impaired driving; this chunk will underwrite high-visibility patrols and operations by the West Valley DUI Task Force, with the grant money set to pay for overtime and supplies, $3,425 is being funneled into their Police Bike Unit to allow for an expanded presence at community events and to uphold public safety teachings.
Moreover, a substantial portion, $30,331, is allotted to enhance traffic investigations—this includes acquiring crash reconstruction software and compensating specialized personnel for overtime work. On the speeding front, $60,338 has been designated to aid in the enforcement against the heavy feet plaguing Buckeye's streets, funding not just the personnel but also the necessary equipment to battle speeding and associated dangerous traffic violations such as distracted and aggressive driving.
