Residents of Camarillo were reminded that not even the safest communities are immune to criminal acts, as a recent vehicle burglary led to the arrest of 39-year-old local, Matthew Merrion, on charges of vehicle burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card. The arrest, as reported by Nixle, comes following an incident that took place on September 11, 2025, in which the victim's car window was shattered, and her purse containing credit cards was taken.
The diligent work by the Camarillo Patrol Services and the Camarillo Investigations Bureau of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office brought the case to a close after the stolen credit cards were used, which was brought to the victim's attention by her bank, signaling several fraudulent charges. Surveillance footage showed the suspect driving a blue Ford F-150 with a distinctive sticker on the rear window, a detail that led to identifying Merrion, who was already on post-release community supervision, and driving this blue Ford F-150
Further investigation involving the Ventura County Probation Agency, which ultimately culminated in Merrion's arrest on October 21, 2025, found evidence through a search of Merrion's cellphone, linking him to online purchases that matched the fraudulent transactions reported by the victim, according to the detailed narrative by Detective Schaum Song. "Merrion remains in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in the City of Ventura, CA. awaiting arraignment," with bail set at $65,000.
