Drivers traversing through Camdenton should prepare for delays as major roadwork on U.S. Route 54 is set to kickstart in early November. According to an announcement by the Missouri Department of Transportation, the project will see the current three-lane highway expanded to five, with a shared center turn lane. Beginning Nov. 3, construction teams will start the long process, which will require lane shifts and the temporary elimination of the center turn lane. Commuters are expected to face some disruptions, but one lane will remain open in each direction.
The project, awarded to Capital Paving & Construction, LLC, at a cost of $6,858,291.67, is poised to not only widen the road but also improve drainage, curbing, and entrance approaches. Local travelers can expect to see these changes unfold in several phases over a two-year span, with an aim to wrap everything up by the end of 2027. According to MoDOT, all scheduled work is subject to weather conditions and may be subject to changes.
As the community braces for construction, MoDOT is reminding motorists to adhere to safety protocols saying, "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones." The disruptions, while inconvenient, promise a smoother and more efficient driving experience upon the project's completion, and MoDOT encourages the public to exercise extra caution to ensure worker and driver safety.
In response to this development, motorists are advised to stay alert, minimize distractions, and respect the altered traffic patterns that will be clearly marked through the construction zones. The need to slowly move over and be aware of the presence of construction workers is paramount for their safety. With the upgrade in place, U.S. Route 54 is expected to offer better traffic flow and safe passage for both locals and travelers passing through Camdenton.
