The Carmel Fire Department is updating its firefighting arsenal with state-of-the-art nozzles, an investment aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of fire response efforts in the area. As stated in a social media announcement by the Carmel Fire Department, the new nozzles will replace equipment that has been dutifully used for nearly a quarter of a century, reflecting a commitment to modernizing tools that keep the community safe.
The updated equipment includes both 1.5-inch and 2.5-inch nozzles, capable of delivering water at 160 and 300 gallons per minute, respectively, at a standardized pressure of 50 pounds per square inch. The lower pressure is intended to minimize nozzle reaction and allow for smoother handling and easier pump pressures for the department’s engineers, according to the department's post. The introduction of new foam expansion tubes is a noteworthy feature—designed to blend more air with firefighting foam, thus creating a more effective foam blanket that could significantly improve vapor suppression and fire control during incidents.
