
Chicago is grappling with another tale of violence after 53-year-old Eric Jones was slapped with charges related to an attempted murder that occurred earlier this year. According to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department, Jones, a resident of the 7000 block of S. Dorchester Ave., now faces one felony count of attempt to commit first-degree murder and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon.
The incident in question dates back to May 12, 2025, when a 51-year-old man was shot and critically wounded on N. Sheridan Rd. in Chicago's 24th District, while a 49-year-old woman also present at the scene miraculously escaped harm; Jones was identified as the shooter who allegedly perpetrated this act, the police and U.S. Marshals apprehended the suspect in the same block where he resides the next day these charges were brought forward based on the findings of law enforcement.
Jones's detention hearing is scheduled for today, October 9, 2025, at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The details of the case are still unraveling, and as of now, the Chicago Police Department has not released any additional information regarding the circumstances leading to the arrest or the possible motive behind the shooting.
