Cleveland business magnate Bobby George is set for arraignment in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas today, after being charged with attempted strangulation – a fifth-degree felony. George, owner of popular establishments including TownHall, is accused of the felony stemming from an incident with a woman in 2024. The indictment by information signifies that George waived his right to a grand jury, leading to direct charges by the prosecution.
According to Cleveland19 News, the case is being prosecuted by Special Prosecutor Jane Hanlin, who intimated that George is expected to enter a guilty plea. Despite the gravity of the initial charges, which included attempted murder, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of strangulation, felonious assault, and rape, the proceedings have now been narrowed down to a single charge. Hanlin's involvement came after Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley recused himself due to potential conflicts of interest.
Details of the arraignment, scheduled for 8:30 a.m., will be made public as WKYC News will live stream the hearing. The single charge implicates George in the act of knowingly causing or attempting to cause harm by strangulation or suffocation, according to court documents related to the case.
"Jane Hanlin, Special Prosecutor, presents information that the above named Defendant(s), on or about the date of the offense set forth above, in the County of Cuyahoga, unlawfully did knowingly attempt to cause or create a substantial risk of physical harm to Jane Doe by means of strangulation or suffocation," read court documents cited by FOX8. The alleged victim is described as either a family or household member or someone with whom George had a dating relationship. If convicted, the charges could lead to a range of sentences, from probation to up to a year in prison.
