Cleveland State University's Kira Marjanovic, a current third-year Bachelor of Arts student and a dance aficionado since age 3, choreographed and instructed the Army band Full Metal Racket, leading to recognition with an Army Achievement Medal. The award came after Marjanovic's involvement in energizing audiences over 11 shows, impacting over 5,000 spectators. Her work combined dance expertise with the precision expected in military performances, a pairing that brought new energy to a touring ensemble known for their dynamic shows.
Marjanovic's journey started with dance as a child, which transitioned into a love for musical theater and an eventual role as a choreographer. After more than a decade honing her craft in jazz, tap, ballet, and gymnastics, she brought her talent to Full Metal Racket as a trumpet player before stepping into her role as a choreographer. "The hardest part about being a choreographer is not being able to be 15 soldiers at the same time," Marjanovic told Cleveland State University news in an interview, describing the intricate process of developing routines and teaching them to the band members.
The Full Metal Racket ensemble is part of the 122nd Army Band’s roster, performing across a variety of venues, including schools with an aim to inspire through music. Marjanovic's award was a direct result of her creativity during Tour Ohio 2024, where her contributions flourished. "I feel very honored to receive such an award from the Army," Marjanovic said, in a statement obtained by the Cleveland State University, evidencing her commitment and the respect that followed. The praise was reflective of her ability to leave a lasting impression on the band, and by extension, the audience they serve.
While juggling her academic commitments at CSU, Marjanovic continues to invest in her relationship with the Ohio National Guard and eyes active duty service in the future. "The 122nd Army National Guard Band is an extremely special unit that I love being a member of," she expressed. Her dedication to the performance arts and service through the military underscores a unique blend of skill and patriotism, setting a stage where discipline meets the finer nuances of human expression—an intersection she clearly masters.
