Coon Rapids residents and weekend travelers, take note: a significant closure is looming over Highway 10 and Round Lake Boulevard, which might compel alterations to your usual route. The City of Coon Rapids, through a post on its Facebook page, has relayed information from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), detailing the closures slated for this weekend due to bridge repairs.
The work, focusing on the southbound Round Lake Boulevard bridge, is set for completion this weekend. The hustle begins at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, with both directions of Hwy. 10, and Round Lake Blvd, at Hwy. 10, due to shut down. An additional pinch point, the outside lane of the eastbound Hwy. 10, will also see closure between Round Lake Blvd, and Hanson Blvd. "Crews will remove falsework used to form concrete during the repairs and restripe the bridge deck," the MnDOT update detailed.
If you're looking to navigate around this roadblock, be prepared for some detouring. MnDOT has recommended detours for Hwy. 10 traffic to zip up and down the ramps at Round Lake Blvd. For those traveling south on Round Lake Blvd., your detour will weave through Northdale Blvd., to land you back on Hwy. 10. Those heading north will have to loop via Main St. to access Hwy. 10 east.
All these diversions and rerouting measures are a temporary hassle for a longer-term gain, with traffic expected to resume its regular flow by 5 a.m., Monday, Oct. 20. While these closures may test the patience of commuters, they are a reminder that the city's infrastructure is under constant maintenance for safety and efficiency. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and perhaps, leave a bit earlier than usual to sidestep the congestion and delays this construction work might cause.
