The City of Coral Springs has received the LEED Gold Certification for its sustainability efforts. The certification recognizes the city’s progress in implementing environmentally responsible practices that enhance residents’ quality of life, as per the City of Coral Spring website.
Coral Springs is now among more than 200 cities worldwide participating in the LEED for Cities and Communities rating system. The city earned 61 out of 110 possible points in areas such as water efficiency, energy use, waste management, and ecological resilience.
Key initiatives contributing to this recognition include improvements in quality of life, water and energy efficiency, transportation, land use, natural systems, and regional innovation.
Dr. Andrea Lemaitre, Coral Springs Sustainability Manager, stated that the certification represents a major step in the city’s ongoing sustainability efforts. Coral Springs was also one of 12 cities selected last year to join the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program, which provided educational and peer support to strengthen sustainability initiatives. The certification was officially announced during the city commission meeting on Wednesday.
