The City of Coral Springs has received a major federal grant to strengthen its fire department. According to a City of Coral Springs release, the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department (CSPFD) was awarded the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant totaling $2,483,447. This is the first time the department has received this funding.
City Manager Catherine Givens stated that the grant will enhance public safety and help reduce financial strain on residents. The funds, distributed over three years, will allow the hiring of 12 new firefighters to expand the department’s workforce.
The SAFER Grant, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), supports fire departments in maintaining proper staffing and meeting operational standards. Coral Springs will contribute $1,543,765 in matching funds to support the program.
The city reported that it has secured nearly $7 million in grants for fiscal year 2025, reflecting its ongoing efforts to strengthen services while managing public resources efficiently.
