Drivers and pedestrians in Delray Beach should brace for a week of potential traffic snarls starting on Monday, October 27. An emergency sewer main repair is set to begin at the intersection of S Ocean Blvd and Linton Blvd due to a misstep by a Florida Department of Transportation project contractor. The damaged City’s sanitary sewer main requires urgent attention, with the repair expected to run around-the-clock over approximately seven days.
As outlined in the official advisory, southbound vehicles along S Ocean Blvd will face a temporary lane shift just south of where Linton Blvd meets S Ocean Ave. In a maneuver destined to cause some confusion, one of the eastbound lanes on Linton Blvd will be closed, just at the bridge that leads toward the intersection with Ocean Ave (SR A1A).
To accommodate those traveling by foot or bicycle through this bustling corridor, there will be clearly marked pedestrian detours. Officials urge commuters to prepare for reduced speeds and intermittent delays that will undoubtedly ripple through the work zone, disrupting the normal ebb and flow of transit in the area.
Local authorities have yet to announce how they will manage the predicted congestion caused by the sewer main fix, but it goes without saying that the patience of commuters will be tested.
