On Thursday, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 600 block of Bayou Drive in Pierre Part, Louisiana. Upon arrival, they found a victim with gunshot wounds and began searching for the suspected shooter, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The search led to a confrontation with an armed individual who fired at the Sheriff, prompting a deputy to return fire and injure the suspect. Both the original victim and the suspect were hospitalized with serious injuries, while the Sheriff suffered minor injuries and the deputy was unharmed, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
A deputy-involved shooting in Assumption Parish is under investigation by the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division – Houma Field Office, after a request from the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office. State Police Detectives are collecting evidence and witness statements, with assistance from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released by authorities when available.
