The metal detectors raised the alarm when the mother entered, but a security guard, who was since removed and is under investigation, did not search her.
The injured student sustained wounds to the head, back, and arm, alongside a cut that ran from the neck to the ear, requiring hospitalization. The victim's mother, in an interview, per Click on Detroit, indicated that the violent encounter followed a separate altercation that occurred on Monday. After receiving treatment, the child was released from the hospital and is on a long road to recovery. Both the child accused of the stabbing and the mother have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The school officials announced the cancellation of classes to reassess safety measures and have planned a family meeting to address the situation. Detroit police informed FOX 2 Detroit that the incident was the result of a disagreement and exclusively involved a 14-year-old student who used the knife to stab another student in the "neck and shoulder area." While the accused and the mother have been taken into custody, the police stated, as of Wednesday evening, that they are unaware of any additional threats targeting students at the school.
