Tragedy struck in Woburn, Massachusetts, yesterday night when a car crashed into a pole, resulting in a serious injury for the driver. According to Boston 25 News, the accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the Route 38 rotary. Emergency personnel found a black BMW sedan ablaze, its front wrapped around a large pole.
Responders witnessed an engine compartment engulfed in flames, which had spread to the surrounding debris, as per the Woburn Fire Department's Facebook post. In trying to save the trapped driver, firefighters put the blaze out and utilized the Jaws of Life, ultimately freeing the individual from what remained of the vehicle. An extensive effort was made by multiple firefighters before the driver could be removed from the wreck. The Woburn Fire Department shared images on social media depicting the car's severely damaged front end, with the pole having pierced through the windshield.
The identity of the driver has not been released to the public, but they were quickly transported to a trauma center with serious injuries.
