The City of Dyersburg urges residents to follow a boil water advisory after a main line break yesterday. According to Action News 5, the break occurred near Dyersburg High School, leading to decreased water pressure across a large portion of the city. Residents are advised to boil water for at least three minutes before drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or preparing food.
Crews have opened several fire hydrants to alleviate the line's pressure while repairs are underway, says Local Memphis. The advisory affects areas south of I-155, west of Pioneer Road, east of Highway 51 Bypass, and north of Parkview Street. "The City of Dyersburg Water System has experienced a water main line break, which has resulted in a significant loss of pressure in the drinking water system," officials stated on Facebook.
Bacteriological tests will be conducted to check for contamination when pressure is restored to the system. The city expects the issue to be resolved within 48 hours, reported Local Memphis. Meanwhile, residents are provided with the phone number 731-288-0724 for the City of Dyersburg Water Plant for further queries or information.
Concerns are specifically high for those with compromised immune systems, including infants and some elderly people. "Water main breaks resulting in a loss of system pressure can introduce disease-causing organisms into the water system," city officials informed residents via their Facebook page, per FOX13 Memphis. These organisms can cause illnesses ranging from nausea and cramps to diarrhea and headaches. The city reassured its residents that they are working promptly to repair the break and to ensure the safety of the drinking water supply.
