As the November special election approaches, vote centers across the county are opening their doors for early voting starting this Saturday. County residents eager to avoid the anticipated Election Day lines can cast their ballot in person or drop off mail-in ballots at any of the 68 available vote centers. According to the County of San Diego, these centers will operate from 8 AM to 5 PM through Monday, Nov. 3. On Tuesday, Nov. 4, voters will have from 7 AM to 8 PM to make their voices heard.
To find the nearest vote center, citizens are directed to visit sdvote.com, offering a straightforward solution to casting their vote without the worry of specific polling locations. This streamlined approach also provides additional benefits, including voting with accessible ballot marking devices and obtaining voting materials in multiple languages. Holding on to your ballot for too long is not recommended; registering to vote or updating your voter registration on the same day are also available options.
Vote centers offer a range of services to enhance the voting process. "Voters can use a touch screen to make their selections on ballot marking devices," the County of San Diego reports. After making selections, the printed ballot is reviewed, placed in a secrecy sleeve, and then handed over to a poll worker for counting. Rules are in place to maintain the sanctity of the process, including prohibitions on campaign activities within 100 feet of a vote center.
The Registrar’s office is also offering over 140 secure stand-alone drop boxes for mail-in ballots, identifiable by the Registrar's logo along with the County seal. These drop boxes, labeled "Official Ballot Drop Box," will close promptly at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters are encouraged to return ballots early to facilitate the tallying of results, which will begin releasing on election night, as described by the County of San Diego.
