The Eden Prairie Police Department has just added a new officer to its ranks, as reported by the department blog. In a ceremony led by Chief Matt Sackett, Officer Trent Wiebusch officially swore to uphold his duties, bringing with him a diverse background and a family lineage steeped in local law enforcement.
A Twin Cities native, Wiebusch has built a career that straddles the worlds of education and police work. Teaching high school history and coaching sports, he honed his skills in leadership and mentorship. Having completed a certificate program at Metropolitan State University, Wiebusch transitions into public safety, following the example set by his identical twin brother, father, and uncle, all serving officers in the area.
His previous experience with the Orono and Chaska Police Departments totals five years, where Wiebusch specialized in "Use of Force, Less-Lethal Tools and Scenario-Based Training," according to the EPPD blog post. This expertise comes as many police departments across the nation face increasing scrutiny over their use of force policies.
