El Paso Community College has opened its doors once more to its Campus Closet at the Little Temple on the Rio Grande campus. This initiative offers a cost-free solution for students, faculty, and staff to access clothing, including professional attire, with the campus community's collective generosity fueling the program. The initiative, spanning from October 13 through October 15, provides a space where individuals can gather pieces to expand their wardrobe without the financial strain, as reported by EPCC News.
Speaking to EPCC News, Ivette Loya, co-founder of the Campus Closet, expressed pleasure at the community's participation, stating, "We accept gentle used, clean clothes for men, women, and children." She noted the feedback received, highlighting a demand for more men's clothing. While the community has demonstrated eagerness to donate and shop, the supply of men's clothing appears to lag behind other categories.
The Campus Closet not only aims to support the less fortunate within the EPCC sphere but also encourages a move towards more sustainable habits by reusing clothing. Luisa Heinrichs, an EPCC Biology major, told EPCC News, "It's a great way of sharing to the EPCC community, especially for those who don't have the opportunity to shop as much as others." She commended the initiative for contributing to the community's sense of solidarity and inclusivity through gestures like children's clothing, fostering that EPCC is family-oriented.
