El Paso County has been shaken by a recent homicide investigation, which unfolded early in the morning hours when the Sheriff’s Office received a missing person report from the area near Cimarron Hills. With few leads on the individual's last known whereabouts, deputies used cell phone location technology to trace the missing person's vehicle to Spectrum Loop in Colorado Springs, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The discovery of the vehicle sparked a suspicion of foul play. A person questioned during the initial phase of the investigation directed law enforcement to search for the Falcon area, where, ultimately, the body of 38-year-old Jeremy Campbell was found near the Woodlake trailhead.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim's identity, while detectives from the Sheriff’s Office have now taken up the reins of what has become a homicide investigation. Khayla Dawson, 27, is currently in custody, facing charges including first-degree murder, indicating a grim resolution to the search for the missing person.
