An inquiry into allegations of sexual abuse against a child has been launched by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit are actively investigating 63-year-old Richard Vasquez following a July 25 report by the Department of Human Services, as detailed by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The accusations revolve around incidents that supposedly took place in the 7000 block of Notre Way, in an area of El Paso County.
As the investigation deepened, officials began to suspect that Vasquez may have had the opportunity to easily access other children in the Pikes Peak vicinity. Due to his connections not only in Colorado but also in Tularosa, New Mexico, concerns have broadened beyond the county’s borders. Held without bond since his October 23 arrest, Vasquez is facing multiple charges, including Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Sexual Assault of a Child, Unlawful Sexual Contact, and Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust.
The Sheriff's Office has made a call to the community, encouraging those who believe they, or someone they know, may have been harmed by Vasquez to step forward.
